The museum of local history shows historic evidence of everyday life in the valley in two different places, at Palazzo De Bassus-Mengotti and at Casa Tomé. They show the differences between aristocracy and peasants. Both houses offer guided tours and workshops that let the visitors experience an exceptional past.
The baroque Palazzo De Bassus-Mengotti was constructed in 1655 and has later been amplified several times. On the ground floor one can find the agriculutural collection. On the first floor temporary expositions are changing with the collection of paintings of the local artist Fernando Lardelli belonging to the museum itself. The second floor is dedicated to everyday life and to emigration, a movement that has formed life in the valley during different centuries and still does.
Casa Tomé, an extraordinary testimony of traditional architecture: It has been built in the Middle Ages as a tower house and got its characteristic shape around 1450. Although the house is located in the heart of the village, it still has got its rural structure and gives us nowadays the chance to have a look at the general living conditions of that time. Within the scope of the project “From the field to the table” the rediscovered, traditional and local nutrition is one of the main topics. New: Hall of emigration from Poschiavo.
