The collection was put together during R. Christen-Dorizzi’s (Basel/Poschiavo) stay in India in the years 1947-57. Until the Islamic invasion on the Indian sub-continent arts and crafts served above all as sacral art. Bit by bit the Islamic artists however adopted the local style and integrated it in their own style which found its expression in items of everyday use. The exposition gives an impression of the remarkable variety of shapes of religious pictorial language.
