Strictly speaking, Valposchiavo has only one vinyard. It lies at the bottom of the valley in Campascio and produces Marco Triacca’s Campà.
All Poschiavo’s other vinyards lie across the border in the Valtelina. Still, we consider them all as local “vini nostrani” because importing Valtellina wines into Switzerland has long been subject to special rules. Our local vintners with properties across the border may import up to 1000 hectolitres (22’000 UK gallons or 26’400 US gallons) a year duty-free from their vinyards that lie within ten-kilometres of the border. Moreover, certain wines may be elaborated in the valley without losing their DOCC Valtellina Superiore designation.
